To portray the status of higher education in the country, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has endeavoured to conduct an annual web-based All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) since 2010-11. The survey covers all the Institutions in the country engaged in imparting of higher education. Data is being collected on several parameters such as teachers, student enrolment, programmes, examination results, education finance, infrastructure. Indicators of educational development such as Institution Density, Gross Enrolment Ratio, Pupil-teacher ratio, Gender Parity Index, Per Student Expenditure will also be calculated from the data collected through AISHE. These are useful in making informed policy decisions and research for development of education sector.
MHRD initiated an All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) in the year 201011 with reference date for filling up the Data Capture Format (DCF) is 30th September of the Academic Year to build a robust database and to assess the correct picture of Higher Education in the Country. Teachers Information Format (TIF) added first time in 2016-17. The survey is being conducted on annual basis. The e-version of Data Capture Format (DCF) and Teacher Information Format (TIF) has been prepared for collecting the data from all the Universities, Colleges and Stand-alone Institutions registered on AISHE Portal (http://aishe.gov.in). Year-wise Database on higher education is developed by collecting data from all the Higher Education Institutions .
While registration of the different category of Institutions a unique code is provided to the institution as AISHE code.
Type of Data Capture Formats (DCFs)
DCF-I Applicable for all type of Universities and Institute of National Importance.
DCF-II Applicable for all type of Colleges affiliated/recognised from University.
DCF-III Applicable for Stand-alone Institutes.
DCF-IV Applicable for Other Minority (other than Muslims)
Therefore, West Bengal State University setup an All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) Cell in the survey year 2010-2011. The cell is headed by the Nodal Officer, appointed by the Vice Chancellor of the University. Every year the data of the University is uploaded in the month of September.
We regularly organize workshops for college Nodal officers, Teaching, Non-teaching Staffs. It is done for awareness of the programs and to clear the doubts, to monitor the progress of filling up forms under AISHE portal.
Currently Dr. Sanghamitra Pal, Department of Statistics and Rajat Pandit are the Joint Nodal officers of the University (since 2016).
