The Post Graduate Department of Psychology, founded in February 2009, is a two-year full-time M.A/ M.Sc. Programme. The major focus lies on inculcating in its students the ability to look at psychological and psychosocial phenomena through the lens of a keen social scientist. In their journey, the students of the department are encouraged to question, debate, diverge and concur in order to develop an understanding of the discipline that analyzes thought, feelings and behaviour. Although the programme is a laboratory-based one, it is committed to inculcate in its students the understanding of both, quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. The offered courses endeavor to establish a service-oriented, holistic bio-psycho-social, non-reductionistic perspective that encourages growth, builds competencies, and develops a broad interdisciplinary approach in its wake. The syllabus attempts to offer critical yet flexible courses, designed in with special emphasis on evidence-based practice, contemporary therapeutic and organizational inputs, hands-on training with internships at hospitals and industrial set ups to encourage the growth of service providers, which should prove to be both academically viable and socially relevant. Students are also encouraged to conduct outreach programmes for increasing the level of awareness regarding mental health issues in and around the university and its affiliated UG colleges.
