75th Republic Day observed today at West Bengal State University in a befitted manner.. organised by NSS Cell, IQAC and Students’ Council. Prof. Raj Kumar Kothari, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor WBSU unfurled the National Flag and received Guard of Honour from Prof. Pranam Dhar, Program Coordinator-NSS, NSS Volunteers and Security Employees. University Hostel was then inaugurated by him, assisted by Dr. Sushanta Banerjee, University Librarian and in-charge of Hostel and Najrul Islam, General Secretary and Mehbub Ali, Secretary, Hostel Committee. Prof. Santa Dutta (De), Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta acted as Chief Guest and enlightened the audience by the message of courage, equity and brevity. Prof. Kothari, Hon’ble VC, explained the significance of this day observance in today’s context. This program was followed by distribution of educational kits and fruits amongst the local school students, tree plantation, poster presentation and distribution of prizes of the annual sports meet, assisted by Prof. Anirban Sarkar, Sports Convener. There was a colourful but significant cultural program moderated by Dr. Soma Bhadra Roy of Bengali Department. The Program ended with a formal vote of thanks and National Anthem. 36 Teachers, 4 Officers, 26 Studdnts, 46 NSS Volunteers, 16 Non-teaching employees, 18 security employees, Head Master of the local school and 150 students from nearby schools participated in the program.

The Department of Political Science, WBSU in association with the IQAC is organising a Special Lecture by Prof. Upendra Choudhury, Department of Political Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on the ‘Role of Big Data on International Relations’ on 5th December 2023 at 02.30 pm at the university.

Prof. Choudhury has been the Director and Member Secretary (2014-2019) at the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Education, Government of India, New Delhi. He will also be discussing ‘How to get a Research Project under ICSSR: An Insider’s perspective’.

Prize Distribution Ceremony cum University level Seminar on Values and Ethics in Sports.
On 17th October 2023 a Prize Distribution Ceremony cum University level Seminar on Values and Ethics in Sports was held at West Bengal State University Barasat. The event was conducted by Prof. Anirban Sarkar, Convener, Sports Board, WBSU. The introductory speech was given by honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajkumar Kothari. Panel of speakers present were renowned Reporter of Sports Sri Hariprasad Chatterjee, renowned Commentator of Sports Sri Pradip Roy, School Service Commission Chairman Sri Siddhartha Majumdar and Dr. Sudarsan Biswas, Deputy Director of Sports, Visva-Bharati University. Among other dignitaries present were Sri Ranjit Mukherjee and Sri Jagadish Ghosh, eminent footballers. University Librarian Dr Susanta Banerjee and few Sports Board members like Smt. Sravasti Chattopadhyay were also present.

INDUCTION PROGRAM FOR “BLIS” SECOND BATCH OF STUDENTS at WBSU
“BLIS” students became an event of joy at WBSU campus. In his welcome address Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Raj Kumar Kothari praised the efforts and dedication of the teachers and students for spreading the wings of the course so fast and so wide. Dr. Ziaur Rahman, Head Department of Library and Information Science, Rabindra Bharati University stressed the importance of BLIS course. Dr. Jaydeep Chanda Secretary, BLA, Dr. Jaydeep Chandra Librarian Rastraguru Surendranath College, Professor Soma Bhadra Roy and Dr. Avik Roy, Librarian Derozio Memorial College and Mr. Swarup Dolui spoke on the occasion. However, the main focus of the event was the colorful cultural presentation of the students. The event became an event of joy and a “Milon Utsob” of Nuton o “Never Puratan” students.
