\nProfessor Dr. Ayan Bhattacharya is a Professor in the Department of Sanskrit at West Bengal
\nState University, Barasat, currently on lien effective from the afternoon of February 25, 2026.
\nHe presently serves as the Vice Chancellor of The Sanskrit College and University, located at
\n1, Bankim Chatterjee Street, Kolkata\u2013700073, an office he assumed on February 26, 2026.\n<\/p>\n

Prior to this appointment, Prof. Bhattacharya undertook a pioneering role as the founder Head
\nof the Department of Sanskrit<\/b> at West Bengal State University, serving in that capacity
\ncontinuously for 10 years. He has also held key administrative positions, including Member of
\nthe University Court, Executive Council (E.C.), and IQAC, as well as Chairperson of the U.G.
\nand P.G. Boards of Studies (BOS) at West Bengal State University. <\/p>\n

Professor Bhattacharya is a well-known author and scholar specializing in Ny\u0101ya-Vai\u015be\u1e63ika,
\nother schools of Indian Philosophy, Vy\u0101kara\u1e47a, S\u0101hitya, Veda, and Dharma\u015b\u0101stra. His teaching
\ncareer in substantive posts spans over three decades across several prestigious institutions,
\nincluding Ramakrishna Math Vivekananda Veda Vidyalaya, Ramakrishna Mission
\nVidyamandira, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University, and West Bengal State
\nUniversity. He has been, and in some instances remains, associated with many reputed
\ninstitutions and universities, such as Benaras Hindu University, the University of Calcutta, the
\nR.K.M. Institute of Culture (Golpark), and Rabindra Bharati University, in various capacities
\nincluding Guest Faculty and Expert Member on different committees and Boards of Studies. <\/p>\n

Professor Bhattacharya is a distinguished contemporary Sanskrit poet and the author<\/b> of the
\nacclaimed work Padyavallari<\/i>. Invited by various institutions, he has participated in many Kavi
\nSammelanas. In July 2010, Professor Bhattacharya was nominated by the Sahitya Akademi to
\nrepresent the Sanskrit language as part of an elite delegation of 24 writers. <\/p>\n

He was awarded the Shiksharatna Award<\/b> by the Government of West Bengal in 2018 for his
\ncontribution as an outstanding teacher. He was also featured as an eminent Sanskrit scholar <\/strong>
\nin an interview with DD News, which broadcasted on December 16, 2023. His academic
\naccolades include the President of India Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Medal for being adjudged
\nthe best student at the University of Calcutta, a gold medal for securing first place in Nyaya at
\nthe All India Elocution Contest organized by the Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD), and
\na gold medal for obtaining the first position in his M.A. Professor Bhattacharya is an alumnus
\nof the erstwhile Government Sanskrit College<\/b> and received a felicitation from the college
\nfor his outstanding academic results. Prof. Bhattacharya maintains a distinguished academic
\nrecord, having secured First Division\/First Class in all examinations from Madhyamik through
\nhis Master\u2019s degree. Notably, he ranked first class first in both his BA (Sanskrit Honours) and
\nMA (Sanskrit with Specialization in Ny\u0101ya-Vai\u015be\u1e63ika Philosophy) at the University of Calcutta. <\/p>\n

He has made notable contributions to the promotion of Sanskrit studies. He served as a
\nmember of a three-member committee<\/b> constituted by the Calcutta High Court for the
\nrenovation of Sanskrit TOLs in West Bengal<\/b>. He rendered rigorous and diligent service in
\nhis pioneering role as the founder Head of newly established Sanskrit departments in two
\nuniversities and took part in framing a unique syllabus designed to groom students in the study
\nof Sanskrit Shastras. He is constantly engaged in making Sanskrit popular and interesting
\nthrough his unique teaching techniques, encouraging students to explore the depths of Shastric
\ntexts and inspiring research scholars to produce original work that offers fresh perspectives. To
\ndate, 15 research scholars have obtained their Ph.D. degrees and 12 scholars have
\nobtained their M.Phil. degrees<\/b> under his supervision. He has authored or edited five books
\nand has more than 70 research papers<\/b> to his credit, which have been published and\/or
