WEST BENGAL STATE UNIVERSITY IN ASSOCITION WITH LIONS CLUB KOLKATA OBSERVES ACADEMIC SOCIAL RESPOSIBILITY

The initiative of West Bengal State University and Lions Club of Calcutta and University librarian Under the supervision of Mr. Sushant Banerjee, a voluntary blood donation camp was organized in the university premises, a water cooler was inaugurated in the library and a tree planting program was organized along with giving winter clothes to some financially poor people in the neighboring areas adjacent to the university, sewing machines to some women. The program was attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mahua Das, other officials of the University, Lions Club officials and other professors of the University, teaching staff, students and students of Kingston Educational Institute, and people from all walks of life. Special thanks to all the blood donors. Some of the moments are framed.

International Conference on ‘Environment, Sustainability & Healthcare’

On December 19, 2022 the Centre for International Studies, West Bengal State University, organised its first International Conference on ‘Environment, Sustainability & Healthcare jointly with Dr. T.N. Poddar Memorial Foundation Kolkata and in collaboration with Lincoln University Quala Lumpur Malaysia. The Conference was inaugurated by Professor Mahua Das Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, West Bengal State University. Keynote address was given by Dr. Sumit Poddar, eminent surgeon.
Other speakers present at the seminar were Dr. Abhijit Ghosh Hon’ble Dean, Faculty of Accounting and Tourism Lincoln University College, Dr. Smriti Mani Hon’ble Principal, Government College of Nursing. and Professor Pranam Dhar, Director Center for International studies, West Bengal State University. Formal Vote of Thanks was given by Professor Sandeep Poddar Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovations), Lincoln University College Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. A Scopus-indexed Journal and two books were published at the conference. A MoU on a new Course on ‘Tourism and Entrepreneurship’ was proposed. 169 participants were present and 54 research-paper were presented.

A special Awareness Programme on acid attack victims, is being organized by the Department of Psychology

A special Awareness Programme on acid attack victims, is being organized by the Department of Psychology, West Bengal State University, in collaboration with IQAC, on the 30th of December, 2022. The timing of the event is from 12 noon to 2 pm, and the venue is Room Number 218. Rimi Chakraborty, Manisha Pailan (Survivor of Acid Attack), and Ujjal Pal would be the speakers for the event, on behalf of Chitkar, an organization dedicated to acid attack remediation.

Today WBSU signed MOU with Chembiotic of purnendu chatterji group. It wll be an all inclusive collaboration in the field of Research, academic exchange program, sharing of lab and infrastucture, endowment of materials, internship, training and placement. The beneficiary Depts. will be Chemistry, Microbiology and Biochemistry.

It’s time for celebration at the Department of English.

The Department of English is delighted to share the news that 𝗔𝗯𝗵𝗶𝗷𝗶𝘁 𝗕𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘆𝘆𝗮 and Md. 𝗞𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝗶 have received the highly prestigious award from Association for Asian Studies (AAS) entitled 𝘊𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 (𝘊𝘏𝘚𝘚) 𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘛𝘦𝘳𝘮 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵 for their proposed projects. The award is the first of its kind to open non-US students to participate in a non-level playing field of grants, which are mostly directed at US and EU students.

Abhijit is currently pursuing his PhD at the Department of English, WBSU. and Kasir has completed his Masters from the Department in 2022.

It is a moment of great pride for the entire department as they competed with many applicants from 17 countries all over the world. It is important to note that the acceptance rate was less than 1% this year. There is a possibility that the awardees will be able to mentor next year’s applicants too.

The Department of English, WBSU, is especially grateful to the Visiting Fulbright Nehru Fellow, Dr. Abhijeet Paul ( UC, Berkeley). who has been instrumental in guiding and supporting Abhijt and Kasir. We thank him wholeheartedly for his consistent and generous support.
