INDUCTION PROGRAM FOR “BLIS” SECOND BATCH OF STUDENTS at WBSU

“BLIS” students became an event of joy at WBSU campus. In his welcome address Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Raj Kumar Kothari praised the efforts and dedication of the teachers and students for spreading the wings of the course so fast and so wide. Dr. Ziaur Rahman, Head Department of Library and Information Science, Rabindra Bharati University stressed the importance of BLIS course. Dr. Jaydeep Chanda Secretary, BLA, Dr. Jaydeep Chandra Librarian Rastraguru Surendranath College, Professor Soma Bhadra Roy and Dr. Avik Roy, Librarian Derozio Memorial College and Mr. Swarup Dolui spoke on the occasion. However, the main focus of the event was the colorful cultural presentation of the students. The event became an event of joy and a “Milon Utsob” of Nuton o “Never Puratan” students.

Convocation of Ramkrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College

Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Kothari is at the Convocation of Ramkrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College. Prof. Sankar Kumar Paul, Padma Shri, National Science Chair, SERB, Govt of of India, former Director Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata was the Chief Guest of the event. Honarable Secretary Maharaj and Principal Maharaj were also present at the occasion. In his address Prof. Kothari emphasized the importance of collaboration. And also highlighted the importance of Indian values and cultural traditions. He also reminded the dedication and sincerity that we need to have for the nation building. He also mentioned the role of Swami Vivekananda, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar and others for the development of the country.

West Bengal State University receives yet another water cooler from Lions Club of Kolkata FRIENDS

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Raj Kumar Kothari inaugurated the water cooler and dedicated it to the students and teachers of the university. The water cooler was gifted by Lions Club of Kolkata Friends. This was the third water cooler that the university received from them. Senior officials of Lions Club, Students and teachers were present at this auspicious event. In his address Prof. Kothari thanked the members of the Lions Club for their generous contributions to the betterment of the society and expressed his willingness to associate with them in all their good cause. He also expressed his heartfelt thank to the University professors and officials for making this happen.


Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Kothari launches the WBSU Open Educational Resources, Sponsored by Commonwealth Educational & Media Centre for Asia

The Central Library with the help of Commonwealth Educational and Media Centre for Asia undertook a project to develop Institutional Open Educational Repository at the University, as a part of this project the library conducted its first Capacity Building Workshop from March 1-3, 2023. More than 67 University professors, college Librarians of our affiliated colleges and also professors from other universities participated to this workshop. Again on May 17, 2023 the library organized a OER Policy Making Workshop for the HODs of the University. 23 HODs participated to this day long workshop and prepared the Policy of University OER. Dr. Barnali Roychoudhury was the Resource person for both the workshops from CEMCA.Then the library team started working on repository and we are happy that the repository has been formally launched by our Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Kothari and dedicated it for the usage of University faculties and students today, September 12, 2023. In his inaugural address professor Kothari offered his sincere thanks to the Director of CEMCA DR. B Shadrach for his continuous support and help to make this dream project a success. He expressed his happiness to see the design, development and content of the repository and encouraged students, teachers and scholars to use this repository and also contribute their work to make it more attractive. He thanked everyone present there.

Webinar of The Centre for Studies in Gender, Culture & Media (CSGCM)

The Centre for Studies in Gender, Culture & Media (CSGCM) at West Bengal State University will begin its third Lecture Series from 16th September 2023. The series is titled Revisiting the Long Nineteenth Century and the inaugural lecture will be delivered by the eminent historian Professor Amiya Prosad Sen on “Enduring Ideas and Values of the Bengal Renaissance” in a webinar on 16th September (Saturday) from 7: 30 pm.
