The Department of Microbiology, West Bengal State University organised a two days “Workshop on Metagenomics and National level Competition in Association with Makeintern & Shaastra (IIT Madras Event)” convened and co-ordinated by Dr. Tapti Sengupta, on 26th and 27th November 2019. Students from Department of Microbiology, Botany and Physiology of WBSU and affiliated colleges participated in the event followed by the competition to select National Level participants to represent at IIT Delhi.

Biochemistry WBSU Webinar
WEST BENGAL STATE UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES 74th INDEPENDENCE DAY.
The honorable Vice Chancellor of the university, Peofessor Basab Choudhuri hosted the Indian flag to mark the 74th Independence day of the nation. The tribute was paid by maintaining social distancing during this pandemic. In his address professor Choudhuri said “The rapid development of the university during the last five years is a result of the hardwork, unity and coordination of all the stake holders of the university”. He also said let our independence oath be to protect name and pride of our university. The General Secretary of the students union, Mr. Nojrul Islam said the students will give their best to protect and keep the glory of the university. Students Union president Mr. Ali, NSS Coordinator Dr. Pronam Dhar and university librarian Dr. Sushanta Banerjee were also present at the event. Honorable Vice Chancrllor handed over hand sanitizers to the security personnel who were present at the occassion. The event concluded with the Indian National Anthem.

REPORT ON WEBINAR
The International Webinar on “Empire and its Others” organized by the Department of English and the Center for Studies in Gender, Culture & Media in collaboration with the IQAC of West Bengal State University was held on 13th August 2020 from 6 pm. The tone of the evening was set by the inaugural address of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University. The first talk delivered by Dr. Sugata Nandi, Department of History. WBSU explored the colonial perception on Indian magic and its fraught connection with science, spirituslism and myth. Samara Ann Cahill from Blinn College, USA elaborated on Samuel Johnson’s views of the Ottoman empire and women. We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the audience. There were 950 registered participants and 1700 viewers on YouTube. The interactive session created a charged atmosphere of academic curiosity. We shall come back with series of web lectures and look forward to your active support.
