Department of Physics started its first batch of M.Sc. in August 2008 in the Camp Office at Barasat Govt. College with distinguished professors from National Research Institutes like SINP and SNBNCBS as guest teachers. Initially when our lab was not developed our first few batches of students performed experiments in SNBNCBS, SINP, Calcutta University and The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune, India. Gradually laboratories are developed and the department becomes independent for teaching. However, students regularly visit major science institutions in Kolkata for their project work. One of the uniqueness of our department is the introduction of computer interfacing the experiments in the laboratory. The department emphasizes on student centric learning methods. Students have to write a review and present that in a seminar in their third semester and complete an 8 credit project work with dissertation and lecture in their fourth semester.
